Ants are a family of social insects, related to wasps and bees, that thrive in colonies and are well known for their brood care as well as being led by a fertile queen. They are one of the most common insects in the world, and an estimated 22,000 species currently exist. They can be identified by their unique bent antennae and nodes that form their waists.
They also have differing physical castes depending on their roles and species, such as "soldiers" and "workers".
